Poetry Pie Writing Challenge: Saturday
Everything you need for Saturday, 4/12/25
Tip #5
Haiku are written in the present tense because they are an observation or reflection about the present moment. I think this is one of the reasons writing haiku feels good—it’s a grounding and mindful practice.
NOTE: I choose to write some of my haiku in the past tense. For me, knowing the rule gives me permission to break it when I want to. :)
Writing Prompt #5
It’s a full moon tonight. Look outside. Write a haiku about the moon in the present tense. I love knowing that we all share the same moon. If it gets too late or the weather isn’t cooperating in your neck of the woods, don’t let that stop you from writing about your night sky. There’s always something to write about.
